Elenita's Mexican Cafe CLOSED

My husband and I go after a round of golf. The staff is always pleasant and friendly. The food arrives quickly and is delicious. I love the salsa - not spicy. The prices are very reasonable. We have never been disappointed with our visit.

For a lover of mexican cuisine, I was excited to try this new restaurant in Hollister. As with most mexican restaurants, Elenita's Cafe had a colorful and warm atmosphere. They have a wide selection of dishes with prices that aren't too bad. Their salsa was by far the best salsa I've ever eaten in a mexican establishment. Unfortunately this ends what was nice about Elenita's. Although we were seated quickly ,(as business was slow at this hour), it was a few minutes before our waiter arrived. Speaking minimal english he took our orders and departed. I will say also that the food arrived quickly, however, I had asked for a chicken dish and they brought me beef. Waiting for another 5-10 minutes I was finally able to flag a different waiter and explain the situation with him. Stating he was sorry, he took my plate and left. When my correct plate arrived it looked delicious. Taking my first bite I was not dissapointed. The Chimichanga was very good. The rice was a little dry but had good flavor. It was around my fourth bite that I found to my dissapointment a chicken bone. Not wanting to waste more time trying to get someone's attention I left my plate and waited with my husband for our check to arrive. This took quite a while because our servers were a little too busy passing by us to sit with a couple of women drinking martini's. I understand the need to socialize but shouldn't this be done when not at work? Although the food was decent, the service and the finding of a bone in my dish will make this my first and only visit to Elenita's Cafe. On a side note, there were no women working here, only men. I thought this a little strange.
